The Cemetery
Liason Committee began its work in 2007. We are
dedicated to restoring beauty and pride to Jacksonville's historic
cemeteries through preservation and education. Our mission is to
record, preserve, maintain, and protect the historic cemeteries of
Jacksonville, as well as increase public appreciation and awareness of
the historical and cultural value cemeteries provide communities.
The committee fulfills its mission by coordinating activities such as, cemetery cleanups, preservation workshops, grounds maintenace, cemetery security, community awareness events, and educational programs.
Surveying a cemetery is a task that you can undertake to help preserve your community history. By following a few simple steps, you can be on your way to cemetery preservation.
To start, choose a cemetery near you and find out who owns it. If you don't know, email us and we will research the ownership for you.
Next, read the Cemetery Survey How-To.
Finally, download the Survey Form.
Once you have completed the cemetery survey, mail the completed forms to SGES-Cemetery Liason Committee. We will enter them into a public database, as well as place copies in the SGES Library and the Main Library.
